After graduating from high-school, Alex came to Canada to continue his studies. Attracted by the practical applications of engineering he made a career switch to electrical engineering. He graduated from University of Calgary with Distinction. His fourth year team project was a robot which won first prize at BEAM/WCRG Millenium Robot Games for " well head blowout ". He continued graduated studies at the University of Calgary focusing on integrated inductors and applications as well as tuning of active LC filters and other inductor circuits. His Master's thesis won the 2003 CMC Component/CAD national award for development of novel microelectronics. After completing his doctorate at the University of Calgary under the supervision of Dr. Fadhel Ghannouchi and Dr. Ivars Finvers he joined Nortel.
